Marlin are large fish from the family Istiophoridae. It has an elongated body, a spear-like bill, and a long, ridgid dorsal fin which extends forward to form a crest. The marlins are fast swimmers, reaching speeds of about 80km/h (50mph). The larger species include the Atlantic blue marlin, which can reach 5 m (16.4 ft) in length and 818kg (1,803 lb) in weight and the black marlin, which can reach in excess of 5 m(16.4 ft) in length and 670 kg (1,480 lb) in weight.They are considered to be a favorite among saltwater game fishermen.
